You must be thinking that installing a brand new 2 Inch Toyota Hilux Lift kit in your vehicle could the best thing ever! The truth is that it will be just that. But there is always something that can go wrong with the suspension or its neighboring parts or any other moving apparatus and that could just send your entire plan of turning your SUV to a “monster on wheels” down the drain. We don’t want that at any cost so what do we do? We play safe.
Yes if you want to install a Toyota Hilux Lift kit in your car, you have to be careful of a few things that could go wrong with your vehicle. Starting with:
Track Bars
They do the job of laterally locating the axle of your vehicle on solid axle suspensions and they have a link-coil design. The Dodge Ram may suffer severe frontend oscillations.
The Problem
We put a lot of load on the track bars of our vehicle and when they are improperly adjusted or even a little damaged or lose, they will cause the axle to go off-center. This results in clunking or popping when you steer the car or are driving over bumps. If not taken care of, this can even cause the steering wheel to go off-center. You will notice that the front axle moves laterally with the steering wheel when you encounter a problem with the front track bar. If you’ve had improper suspension modifications or used wrong installation techniques chances are that your track bars will soon bend or break. Grade bolts that are improper or unsuitable can break. The bolts with inappropriate size may oval-out or damage a bushing. You will notice that the most common hardware failures in your car will often be a result of failure to re-torque. Therefore it is important to take adequate measures that facilitate correct re-torque after install. Remember, these are not the only reasons for this problem. The daily wear and tear also causes enough damage to them and at times can take a major toll on track bars.
The Fix
If your car suffers from a problem like this, it is time to halt the modification that you had in mind regarding the Toyota Hilux Lift kits and try to fix the track bars instead. Remember to properly reinstall the bars that have suffered a hardware failure and don’t forget to re-torque them to spec. If you encounter any failed track bars they should ideally be rebuilt or completely replaced. This will again depend largely on the type of damage your bars have suffered.
Sheared Shock Mounts
Shock mounts do the work of supporting shocks and coil-overs. They provide a strong foundation for your suspension.
The Problem
You may not realize that a broken mount can actually be a serious problem and then again the severity of it would largely depend on the kind of suspension setup your car uses. Broken shock mounts can be a real headache and affect the overall ride quality. They also cause noise over bumps and may often lead to handling problems. But what is the primary reason or them failing or going bad? Have you ever had a case of poorly welded mounts? Sounds familiar doesn’t it? This is because any poorly done welding job will not be able to support or bear the load generated by a shock. Other common reasons include use of shocks of improper length, unsuitable hardware, any missing bumpstops or absence of limit straps.
The Fix
It is simple really. You should hire a qualified welder to do the job. He should be able to re-weld any broken shock mounts and this time, ask him to do a fine job of it unlike what he did the last time.
